Day 28 Post Cystectomy - Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me!  Lol!  I woke up feeling a little sad that I wasn't on facebook (I don't feel a freedom to join facebook because I believe I would waste entirely TOO much of my time if I did) because people get all kinds of Happy Birthday wishes since facebook reminds all your friends it is your birthday.  Well, I didn't need any facebook today!!  I don't know how all these people knew it was my birthday but I had more texts and calls and emails wishing me a happy birthday than I can ever remember!  And my friend, Dawn, stopped by with a dozen yellow roses and some Lindor chocolates - so sweet of her!  Tim made me some breakfast and then I just kind of hung out with Nicole and Nathan it seemed like for a larger portain of the day.  I also got a lovely nap in, of course!

I had been told that there were 3 suppliers of urostomy supplies - ConvaTec, Hollister, and Coloplast.  I've already received free stuff from ConvaTec, and right now I'm not interested in Hollister having sampled their bag and hating it, so I called Coloplast and spoke with Andrew for about 45 minutes.  He asked me a bunch of questions, including the size of my stoma and when the procedure was done, etc.  I asked him about a leg bag, and he said he would send me a sample leg bag, too!  He said he would also send me a night bag.  I asked him about the night bag and if there was supposed to be any maintenance to it.  Come to find out, I'm supposed to be cleaning it out either every day or every other day.  Plus, he said insurance usually covers 2 a month, so you're supposed to throw away your night bag after a couple weeks.
Really?  That would have been good information to have!  I've been using the same one for 4 weeks and never cleaned it!  Maybe that's why I have a UTI?  Ugh!  So I promptly threw away that one and opened the other one I have and will use that tonight.  Thankfully, Andrew is sending me a sample one of theirs so I will have another one after this 2 week period.  But I really need to get my act together, get a script from my doctor's office, and place an order for another month's supply before I run out of what I have!

Back to my birthday.  My sister had sent us a generous Bonefish Grill gift card, so I got everyone's order and ordered from there, and Tim and Nathan went and picked it up.  We all sat down to a scrumptious dinner - it was SO great!

We're all kind of lax when it comes to gifts (I still haven't started my Christmas shopping), and since that is at the bottom of my love languages I'm totally OK with it.  So, while I didn't receive any gifts from anyone, they all gave me cards, which always means way more to me anyway!  I opened up Nicole's first and read it to myself first and then held it to my heart and then read it out loud and then held it to my heart - it was SO precious and meaningful.  And then I read Nicholas' card (he's the kid in the glasses on the right).  Nicholas and I have not had the closest of relationships apart from when he was a baby and we were really close, but the past year or so has been a lot better, and he said things in his card I've been longing to hear from him his whole life - it made me cry it was so precious.  Noah and Nathan and Tim's cards were equally special, and I just enjoyed that time together SO much!  I had been hearing about the Mandalorian, and Nathan asked if we could watch a couple episodes together.  We had just gotten Disney+ for free being Verizon Wireless customers, so we all sat down and watched 3 episodes.  I have to admit, even though I don't like sci fi and I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, it was pretty good.  We were going to play a game after that but Tim and I were both completely beat, so we signed off and went to bed.  All in all, it was a lovely day, and a day I was very thankful to be able to be home and celebrating with my family!
