Nicholas got a new cookbook, and Tim helped him create this masterpiece using a recipe from it.  Proud of my 2 handsome chefs!

Date nights!

Two days after coming home from Maine we headed out to a friend's surprise birthday party, and it ended up being a really fun date for us with dinner and dancing!  We had one of the kids snap a picture of us, and as all the kids do, they can't just take 1 picture - and then google puts together an animation, so there you have it!  Then 5 days later (today) we decided to go out on a date with just the two of us!  I only took 3 pictures so Google put together a collage for me.  I think I could get used to all of this dating!  :-)

Our last full day in Maine

Today was Scott & Laura's anniversary, so we gave them the place to themselves in the morning and went on a hike to Mead Mountain.  It started out a bit buggy, honestly, and I wanted to turn back a few times because of it.  But once we were up in the elevation it was much better, and then the vista at the end was definitely worth it!  We didn't know it at the time, but it was actually a loop, so we went down the other side on a very fun hike across rocks and tundra and streams and lush vegetation.  We were hot and thirsty and very satisfied by the time we made it back to the vehicle.  We got back around lunch time and had a lovely lunch with our friends.  We were going to hit Otter Point and Thunder Hole, but we decided to rest during the afternoon.  Before we left for dinner I took a picture of our bedroom and the view from our bedroom window - it was so nice!  Then it was time for a lobster feast!!  Get a load of the picture of the lobsters we had - wow!  There was a dock at the restaurant, so after we ate we walked down to the dock, put some music on our phones, and danced away!  It was so much fun!  We are all SO not wanting this trip to end.  We finally made our way home and put in the movie Seabiscuit that was there at the place we were staying.  Such a good movie!  As my mom used to say, all good things must come to an end, so we will head home tomorrow and close this chapter on an awesome Maine vacation!

Bar Harbor and Sunset Cruise

7/21/2020

What a fantastic day!!  We had a nice leisurely morning, and then left for Bar Harbor (stopping to grab some ice cream on the way) in the afternoon.  We did the self-guided Bar Harbor walking tour, and I just loved it (although we only got a fraction of the way through it!).  One of our first stops was at this view of Bar Island that you can only get to during low tide (which you can see we were smack dab in the middle of when we were there.  You have to read the warning sign I took a picture of it - I think it's hilarious.  We then made our way to the dock and the 4 mainsail mast schooner we had purchased tickets for a sunset cruise!  Tim and Scott helped hoist one of the mainsails!  They had a guy playing his guitar and singing, and it was just a great atmosphere!  We met another couple on their anniversary.  They are believers, too, so we had a great time fellowshipping with them!  And the sunset wasn't half bad as well!  I gotta say - I'm a little spoiled from the Cadillac Mountain one.  :-)  We ended the evening in a pub having a huge pretzel to share!  Another great day!

Sunset on Cadillac Mountain

I'm going to warn you ahead of time, we took a TON of pictures tonight and I'm going to post most of them!  That was probably one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen - and it lasted for like 2 hours!!  It was amazing!  We had a very nice and relaxing day and didn't do much of anything other than Tim and I put together the puzzle you see in the picture below.  We went to see the sunset on Cadillac Mountain, and it was spectacular!  Here are some of the pictures:

We checked out of our cabin this morning, and while we waited to be able to check into our Airbnb we took a quick trip into Bar Harbor to check it out.  It is such a quaint little town I fell in love with it immediately!  We then drove about 45 minutes to our Airbnb in Surry, with a lovely view of the water!  Here are some pictures we took today:

Jordan's Pond, Bubbles, & Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse

We started out hiking around Jordan's Pond, and then hiked up a ton of stones to the top of the South Bubble of The Bubbles Mountains.  It was a beautiful view once we got up there.  We were actually pretty warm as we saw temperatures in the mid 80's!  It's evidently a loop that takes you over the North Bubble and on around the lake, but we decided to go back the way we came to save time because we were getting hungry!  Laura stood in a long line when we got back to purchase the famous popovers for us.  The rest of us told her we didn't want any but she got enough for all of us and we were so glad she did - yummy!!!  What were we thinking?  Since our car was in the shade we just ate from the back of the car and celebrated our great accomplishment!  Lol!  We then drove down to the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and spent some time there just enjoying the scenery and relaxing on the rocks!  It was a good day to be had by all!!!

It's aMainezing!!

I keep saying to our friends, Scott & Laura, I can't believe we're actually here!  Honestly, the fact that this trip was hanging in the balance so much makes being here that much sweeter.  Our cabin is so quaint and cozy, and the view fantastic!  We arrived yesterday and went to pick up our standard SUV and all they had was a deluxe SUV - a Range Rover (one of Tim's most favorite vehicles!).  That'll do!  We stopped and got groceries and then landed at our cabin in the evening.  Today was rainy and cold - a perfect day to just relax and bask in being together and resting and eating all the food we bought!  Here are some pictures we took.  Tomorrow we're planning on hiking in Acadia - can't wait!
Just another little story to add to our nail biting experience regarding whether we were going to be able to come to Maine or not - after midnight on the night before we were flying out yesterday morning, I mistakenly flipped a pot of boiling water and poured the contents all over my upturned hands.  I still can’t believe that happened, and I can’t believe the only thing I’m suffering is my wedding ring finger and a little bit on my pinky next to it.  It feels miraculous that the rest of my hands are OK.  I don’t understand why my left hand was worse than my right – I remember seeing both of them being completely covered with the boiling water!  I was literally awake all night soaking my hands in a bowl of ice water (I read you're not supposed to do that, but I just couldn't take being out of the water for more than like 30 seconds at a time).  By the time we left for the airport at like 5am I was still in excruciating pain, so we stopped at a 24 hour Walgreens on the way to the airport (Nicole's idea!) and got some burn gel.  That finally made the pain bearable!!  And by the time we got here in Maine, it was really just my left hand where my wedding ring was that was still hurting - I still can't believe I don't have more damage!  Here's what it looks like now:

It looks like we're going on vacation tomorrow!

Well, it seems like everything is falling into place for us to be able to go tomorrow!  That's the good news.  The bad news is that Nathan got up at 3am and waited in line and got tested this morning and he definitely has Covid-19.  We already figured as much, but it's still a bummer for it to be official.  I highly recommend the place he went to today - Advent Health Centra Care on Bloomingdale.  He said they were really nice and tested him quickly (he was 4th in line) and gave him the results right away.  So he's really not going to be able to go back to work before college after he quarantines and then goes on vacation with a buddy of his - they're going out to Grand Teton National Park at the end of the month.  But he's feeling better and it appears Nicole & Nicholas and I dodged the bullet!  Praise God!

Grain bowls and an update

7/7/2020

Nathan started having symptoms today - boo!  So he is joining Noah in their room of quarantine.  Nicole and I are furiously wiping surfaces and light fixtures and cabinets and appliance handles regularly and wearing masks and gloves when we deliver food to the sickies.  Tim is thankfully feeling better as of yesterday but is staying in the room and I'm with Nicole for another 3 days after symptoms subside per recommendation.  I think one of the worst things about this whole thing for me is the mental anguish of not knowing if I'm going to get it because we're supposed to be flying out next Thursday for our vacation.  If I get it now our vacation is over.  And that doesn't just affect me and Tim, it affects our friends that we are meeting up in Maine to help them celebrate their anniversary.  I'm meditating on trusting the Lord because this is completely out of my control!
On a positive note, the same friend, Linda Boswell, who brought us Thanksgiving dinner when I came home from the hospital last year brought us an incredible grain bowl dinner last night!  Check it out below:

Tim and Jodie have been married since Nov. 5, 1988.  Tim is a retired Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and retired city of Tampa Firefighter.   Jodie is a happily laid off IBM/AT&T 21 yr veteran employee. So I guess you can say they're both retired, but still super busy!  They have four wonderful children:  triplets Nathan, Nicole, and   Noah born 11/16/97 and Nicholas born 5/16/99.  Nathan is at Trinity College, Noah is at Florida Polytechnic University, and Nicole is at USF.  Nicholas is an EDM (electronic dance music) creator and hoping to make a living from that!  We love and are so proud of our kids!
