Grand Canyon day 2

I forgot to mention last night that after we had watched the sunset, we found the restrooms before we headed out to the car.  As I came out of the ladies room, I found some tree urchins greeting me, so I even took my picture with one of them:
So, this morning I received a phone calls at 4:34, 5:49, and 6:32 (of course, that is 7:34, 8:49, and 9:34 Eastern time, but unfortunately, we're not on Eastern time anymore)!  So remind me to turn off my phone at night from now until we get back to at least the Central timezone!  :-)
Fortunately, I was able to go back to sleep, so we all slept in a bit.  After breakfast, we packed up and caught a bus going into the Grand Canyon.  We hiked around for a few hours and then stopped for lunch at the Vercamp Visitor's Center.  Tim and I remembered taking off from there over 15 years ago on mules to take a ride down into the canyon to a lookout point.  That was the only thing we did at the Grand Canyon 15 years ago, so it was great coming back this time, with kids, and hiking around the rim.  Spectacular!  After lunch it started raining so we hung around and listened to a ranger talk at the visitor center, and then we hopped on a bus for the 'red' line that  would take us to the furthest western point of the south rim that the buses go, with several stops along the way.  However, it rained the entire time we were on the bus, so at each stop we would look at each other and go... nah, not this stop.  When we got to the 2nd to last stop there was a slight break in the weather so we got out, took some pictures, enjoyed some great views of the Colorado river, and then got back on the next bus.  It took us a little bit to manuever all the different buses, but we finally made it home around 5:30pm and collapsed.  After resting a bit, Nathan & I made dinner, and then we all got ready for bed because we're getting up at 4:30am tomorrow to watch the sunrise (too bad we didn't do that this morning since I had all those wake up calls with snooze alarms and everything!).  :-)  Anyway,  here are some more pictures from today...

Thank you for faithfully writing each day! I am enjoying your "venture"... When I was young I had a teacher who read books about the GRAND CANYON and I determined then that I would go some day! I had forgotten... I have never been. It truly looks GRAND. Thank you for the pictures. You have given me that desire again, thank you! God is certainly with you and guarding your steps.

    Tim & Jodie

Tim and Jodie have been married since Nov. 5, 1988.  Tim is a retired Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and retired city of Tampa Firefighter.   Jodie is a happily laid off IBM/AT&T 21 yr veteran employee. So I guess you can say they're both retired, but still super busy!  They have four wonderful children:  triplets Nathan, Nicole, and   Noah born 11/16/97 and Nicholas born 5/16/99.  Nathan is at Trinity College, Noah is at Florida Polytechnic University, and Nicole is at USF.  Nicholas is an EDM (electronic dance music) creator and hoping to make a living from that!  We love and are so proud of our kids!
