Happy Birthday Nicholas!!

Today was Nicholas' 17th birthday!!  We started the celebration yesterday by taking him and his best friend, Andrew to see the new Captain America movie.  Look how thrilled they look!  :-)  Actually, I think it's their "I'm thrilled and I'm cool" look!

Then they went to Andrew's house to go swimming and play on the Xbox, and then they came back to our house for pizza dinner with cake and ice cream and then presents!  He really only got 1 present but it was an expensive one that we all pitched in on called FL Studio.  It is a production software that he can use to create Electronic Music - he is so talented with that!  I wish I had video'd his reaction when he opened it - it was great!! Here are a couple of pictures from Sunday:

Then today Nathan woke up early and got Nicholas up and took him to the YMCA to work out and play some basketball and then took him to breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts and then took him to school!  What a great big brother thing to do!  Unfortunately, a couple of hours later I got a call from Nicholas saying he was sick to his stomach probably from eating too many donuts, so Nathan went and got him, brought him home, and then played games with him for a few hours.  While they were playing games, Tim and I took Nicole to a car place to buy a car she and I had looked at on Friday.  Her first car!  It's big like we wanted it, to hopefully protect her if she is ever in an accident, and she got a great deal on it!  It's a nice burgandy colored 2004 Chevy Blazer.  Here's a picture of her getting the keys from the dealer:

And then tonight we had to play double duty (which is why we celebrated Nicholas' birthday yesterday)!  Tonight we had the homeschool sports banquet for Nathan & Nicole, and also Nicholas' spring concert.  Tim went to the concert and I went to the sports banquet.  I asked Tim to please take a picture of Nicholas at the spring concert, but I was thinking of a picture of Nicholas in his tux, but Tim took the picture after Nicholas changed into his T-shirt.  Ah well - it's still a pretty good picture:

At the FISH Sports banquet Nicole won the Spirit award from her cheerleading coach, who choked up when she was describing Nicole as one of the most encouraging and wonderful girls on the team before she announced Nicole as the winner.  It was a precious moment!  And then Nathan's basketball coach shared what an awesome example of sportsmanship he was all these past 4 years of High School, along with being the most improved player over these past 4 years. Nicole was also recognized for her participation on the soccer team, where she scored the last goal of the last game of their season this past Saturday at a soccer tournament in Orlando that she and I went to together.  Here is a picture of Nicole receiving the award from the cheerleading coach and then some pictures from the soccer tournament (she's number 4).  I only got a video of the things the coach said to Nathan but no pictures of him tonight ;-(  So sorry.
Just a quick story about this past weekend.  On the way to the tournament on Friday after we had just gotten off onto the I-4 exit in Orlando I ran over a part of a tire that someone had evidently just lost.  Then we heard this awful noise, so I pulled over and the undercarriage plastic protector was dragging on the ground.  I just needed a wrench to get the couple of bolts off that were holding it in place, and after calling AAA with a projected 1 hour wait time I saw a truck on the side of the road several hundred yards up from us.  So we walked up to the truck and asked the guy if he had a wrench.  Turns out it was the guy whose tire I had run over!  He did have a couple of wrenches and came back and took the plastic protector completely off for us.  So we made it to the game with 10 minutes to spare!  Whew!  And then the next day, on the last game with only about 3 minutes to go, my canopy caught a gust of wind and it flipped over and broke in probably 3 spots!  Argh.  And while I was dealing with that is when Nicole scored her goal!!  After watching her for 2 days and really all season I missed her final goal!!  Argh!!  Thankfully, another family was videoing it, and they're going to send me the video.  So the silver lining is I probably wouldn't have pursued getting a video if I had seen it, and now I'll have one!!

Ok - one last thing.  We had an incredibly beautiful few days starting the first Friday in May.  So Tim and I had the best date ever that Friday!  We went to a park with a great walking trail and spent about an hour there.  Then we went to a blueberry farm that was going to start their u-pick the next day but since we knew them they told us we could come a day early, so we were the only ones there!  I put on some worship music on my phone and we just had a blast picking blueberries together.  And then we went to this outdoor coffee shop and enjoyed some coffee (for Tim) and tea (for me).  It was so refreshing and life giving!!  What a huge blessing!  I'll leave with with a photo I shot while we were picking blueberries:
