We got up, quickly ate breakfast, and then took our camper into to a local Ford dealership to work on the cruise control. We then met Mrs. Garcia for a hike up Pinnacle Peak. Nicole really appreciated a diversion from the museums, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the views. There are types of cactus that actually appear to attack you if you get too close. You can be as far as 6 inches away from them and they are evidently drawn to body heat and they can sting you! So we had to be careful on our hike. Nicholas is kneeling next to one of these types with the cute name of Teddy Bear cactus, only you don’t want to snuggle up with this type of teddy bear! Click to enlarge his picture and see if you can read what the sign says about it. How about these views from the peak?!
OK – here are the pictures from 2 days ago, starting with the sunrise at the Grand Canyon. There's the mule deer I was talking about who greeted us when we got out of our car at Mather Point: Here is the only picture that came out of the pictures we took on July 4th with the Garcia's (the other pictures are too dark!) Here’s what we did yesterday…. We got up, quickly ate breakfast, and then took our camper into to a local Ford dealership to work on the cruise control. Our RV was ready to pick up around 1pm, so Mrs. Garcia generously offered to have the kids stay and swim and eat leftovers from their 4th of July party while Tim and I went and picked up the RV. We came back to the Garcia's, and then I took the kids to a really nice local YMCA for a couple of hours while Tim skyped with a few clients. Then we went to a burger place the kids had been talking about ever since they read about it in a book that it has the best burgers and it is owned by a Christian family. It is called In and Out, and they have verses underneath the bottom of their cups. :-) Here are a couple of pictures from our time there: This brings me to TODAY! We met Mrs. Garcia and 2 of their kids at the AMC movie theater at 10:15am for $5 movies (which we were able to use our gift card for!) and saw the movie Brave. We were thinking about packing up and heading out towards San Diego, but we had already paid for tonight here and they wouldn't give us a refund. So we spent the afternoon hanging around the RV, the kids playing games while I worked for about 3 hours and Tim worked on planning our next spot. We got the kids a couple of movies, and we went and spent some adult time with Mr. & Mrs. Garcia. We really enjoy and respect them a lot! They have a ministry to marriage ministries, if that makes any sense, and we so appreciate the wisdom and experience they have. Well, tomorrow we set off for San Diego and more high temperatures! I think it got up to 107 here today or something crazy like that!! It won't be long before we start heading north to cooler temperatures. Even with the heat, we are thoroughly enjoying experiencing all the different places we've been so far! Prayers for an uneventful trip across the desert to San Diego would be much appreciated! Blessings to all!
