San Diego

I was awakened at 6am to my husband bending over and whispering in my ear, "Come with me - you've got to see this".  He had gotten up early to get some coffee at the 7-11, and had just returned home.  So I groggily got dressed, grabbed my coat, and walked outside where he led me to the car.  My "Where are we going?" inquiry was met with a "You'll see" reply.  The road started twisting and turning, and the sun was up but behind the hills all around us.  Suddenly, we rounded a bend and the sight was truly breathtaking.  We were pretty high up looking down on a valley, and it looked like we were in an airplane because the clouds were below us with mountains on either side of us.  I tried to get a picture, but the camera couldn't capture it.  Suffice it to say, it was very picturesque.  We made our way back to the camper and sleeping children so we promptly went back to sleep ourselves!
We finally all woke up and got going around 9:30, and were out of the camper by sometime after 10.  The drive into San Diego was amazingly beautiful.  We went ahead and drove downtown to the gaslamp district, and then we drove over a bridge to Coronado Island.  The water all around us was the deepest blue I've ever seen, and the sky was gorgeous.  We then drove over to Cabrillo National Monument and spent several hours there looking out over San Diego and the port on one side and the vast Pacific Ocean on the other side.  Again, so stunning I felt like all my senses couldn't take so much beauty, they were overwhelmed!  After a picnic lunch there, we drove over to Mission Beach.  Nicole & Noah didn't want to get out (I guess they had had enough walking at the Cabrillo place), so the rest of us got out and walked out to the ocean.  Nathan, Nicholas, and I stuck our toes in the water and that's all it took for us Floridians to decide we'd felt enough of that!  Brr!  It was only like 72 degrees outside, and I don't know what temperature of the water was, but it felt COLD!
After burying Nicholas in the sand up to his neck it was getting to be around 5pm, and we were all ready to get back to our campsite.  Tim stopped at a grocery store and bought some spinach & feta cheese stuffed salmon to be grilled, so we came home and he put some charcoals on the grill here and grilled burgers for the kids and the salmon for us.   The boys swam while he cooked and I got veggies and other things together.  Finally, it was dinner time - one of those times where everyone is in a good mood and everything said is funny.  Bunnies were hopping all around us - they were as plentiful as squirrels are in Florida, only cuter!  :-)  And the food was scrumptious!  I still feel like my senses are on overload - how can I take all this amazing beauty in so quickly?  I can only hope I can relive it when I read back through this blog and see the pictures.  I am too tired to post all the pictures we got today, so I will try to do that tomorrow.  Hope everyone has had a great weekend!

    Tim & Jodie

Tim and Jodie have been married since Nov. 5, 1988.  Tim is a retired Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and retired city of Tampa Firefighter.   Jodie is a happily laid off IBM/AT&T 21 yr veteran employee. So I guess you can say they're both retired, but still super busy!  They have four wonderful children:  triplets Nathan, Nicole, and   Noah born 11/16/97 and Nicholas born 5/16/99.  Nathan is at Trinity College, Noah is at Florida Polytechnic University, and Nicole is at USF.  Nicholas is an EDM (electronic dance music) creator and hoping to make a living from that!  We love and are so proud of our kids!
