What a great day in San Francisco! We started out sleeping in and enjoying a morning of rest. We finally started packing up and got on the road around 1pm. We enjoyed Little Church in the car, and it helped to pass the time since the ride going in to San Francisco was very congested and ended up taking us an hour and a half to get there. We drove straight to Tim's cousin's house, where we were greeted warmly by he (Wayne) and his wife (Connie). Wayne took us up to their rooftop deck where we enjoyed a great view of the bay. We then came down to their place and hung out a little bit. From there, Wayne drove us to the rowing club that he is a member of, where we brought our lunch and ate at one of the picnic tables they have inside overlooking the bay - I couldn't imagine a more perfect setting! Wayne kind of dared us to go into the water, so everyone but me took a try at it, and I was able to capture their cold reactions on camera. Other people were swimming in there, and evidently this goes on pretty much every day! Brrrr!! The kids and I then walked down Jefferson street all the way down to Pier 39 and then back. It was fun watching all the people and street performers and just experiencing all the sights and sounds, plus we had a bonus in that we saw a sea lion! We then hopped back into Wayne's car and he took us driving around the city and showing us various sights. He dropped us off by the Golden Gate bridge and we went and walked on it! We drove around a bit more and went to the ocean side which was powerful and majestic! We then headed back to Wayne's place where his wife had fixed us an incredible lasagna dinner with soup and salad and bread and brownies! Yummy!! We had such a great time visiting with them that before we knew it, it was after 9pm. We had kicked around the idea of getting on a cable car since Wayne is a retired cable car operator, but we almost didn't do it because it was getting so late. But they were kind of insistant that we go, so we finally agreed (and boy are we glad we did!), except Tim and Noah opted out. Wayne was able to get us all on for free and so we all stood on the side of the cable car the whole way to Union Station. It was such a blast hanging off the side of a cable car and eyeing different perspectives of San Francisco and high-fiving people in the cable cars going past us in the opposite direction. What a rush! We took a return trip back, and by the time we got back to their home it was like 11pm, and Tim and Noah had fallen asleep! After rousing them and saying our Good byes, we hopped in the car and came back to our camper, arriving at midnight! Here are some pictures we got of our day. Enjoy!
